Elastomeric Roof Coatings

Elastomeric roof coatings are a great option to extend the life of a roof, fix leaks, or increase the energy efficiency of your roof.

Most elastomeric roof coatings last for a minimum of 10 years, are easy to apply, and are much cheaper than a full roof replacement.

Roof coatings are seamless and when installed correctly, can solve roof leaks on almost any type of roof substrate. Field-applied reflective roof coatings can extend the useful life of nearly every roof substrate keeping a roof surface cool and providing a level of protection from the sun and weather.

Roof coatings can add 25 years to the service life of a roof and reduce the amount of discarded roofing materials that end up in landfills. The infrared image on the right shows 175°F on the uncoated (black) section of the modified bitumen roof. The coated (white) section is 79°F. Field studies have shown that cool roof coatings can lower rooftop temperatures and reduce air conditioning bills.

TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin)

TPO roofing system is one of the latest flat, single ply roofing materials on the market. The current membrane formulations are reinforced with a polyester fabric and manufactured using an ultraviolet-resistant thermoplastic polyolefin formulation. TPO roofing comes in several thicknesses.

TPO can be fully adhered, mechanically fastened, or ballasted. TPO seam strengths are reported to be three to four times higher than EPDM roofing systems. This is a popular choice for environmentally friendly building. It is available in white, grey, and black.

Using white roof material helps increase solar reflectivity and decrease solar heat gain in the building.

EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)

EPDM is a synthetic rubber most commonly used in single-ply roofing because it is readily available and relatively simple to apply. EPDM as a roofing membrane has advanced significantly over recent years.

Seaming has become simple with the addition of Factory Applied Tape, resulting in a faster installation. The addition of these tapes has reduced labour by as much as 75%. Rolls of EPDM are available with Factory Applied Tape pre-applied to one edge. This is an uncured EPDM tape. The other edge is marked to indicate the appropriate ovelap. The Factory Applied Tape is laid into the primed overlap and rolled with a little pressure. The resulting seam is stronger, and neater. Any details are taken care of with the appropriate tape. The process involves applying primer with a brush or scrubber, allowing it to flash off to touch dry (this takes moments), then applying the tape and rolling to ensure it is properly bonded.

A full-service professional roofing company is concerned with commercial roof structure repair, waterproofing, and the repairs and maintenance requirements of new and pre-existing business buildings. An industrial building can have numerous protrusions – smoke stacks, pipes, roof entrances, skylights, mechanical wiring, etc. Any contracting professional needs to take into account major specifications including heat emission from heavy machinery, and the compound character associated with a substance active within a selected building. Commercial roofing calls for a whole team being employed together with tools, and solutions and products which are meticulously designed so that only professional roofers can handle them. A qualified professional roofing contractor will have the man-power important for the intent, and can meet, and take care of large jobs for various concepts.
